Marilyn Jaunette Henderson-Parker (affectionately known as “BABY”) peacefully transitioned Monday, September 4, 2017 at Miami Valley Hospital, surrounded by family. Marilyn was born September 30, 1947 in Dayton, Ohio, the fourth child born to the late John W. Sr. and Mary E. Henderson. Both of her grandmothers, Eloise G. Simpkins and Mary Lou Henderson were ministers of the gospel. Marilyn graduated from Roosevelt High School, Class of 1966, and from Tennessee State University, Class of 1970. In 1972, she joined the Peace Corps and traveled to Brazil. In 1988, she received a Master’s degree from The University of Dayton. Marilyn retired from the Dayton Public School System with 36 years of service. On February 17, 1978, she married William C. Parker. They celebrated their 39th anniversary February 17, 2017. Marilyn was preceded in death by her sister, Elois C. Edmerson. Marilyn leaves to cherish her memories a devoted husband, William C. Parker; siblings, John W. Henderson, Jr., (Frenchie) Minneapolis, MN, David L. Henderson, Sr., (Karen) and Paul M. Henderson, Dayton; nieces, Denise Gooden-Richmond (Guy), Ypsilanti, MI, Cheryl Henderson, Pam Layton, Minneapolis, MN, Hanna Franklin, Washington, DC; nephews (fondly called “The Boys”), David Henderson Jr. (Heather), Oak Park, IL, Cris Henderson Sr. (Shatawn), Clayton, OH, Paul McGhee II (Karla), Cincinnati, OH, Harold Edmerson, Jr., Washington, D.C., and John Edmerson Cincinnati, OH; Jahi Henderson, Dayton; brothers-in-law, Harold Edmerson, Sr., Cincinnati, OH; and Walter Parker, Palm Coast, FL; sisters-in-law, Juanita Bell and Clasaunda Parker, Chicago, IL; a host of relatives and friends. Funeral service will be held 11 am Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Phillips Temple C.M.E. Church, 3620 Shiloh Springs Rd. Rev. James Washington officiating. Visitation 9-11 am. Family will receive friends 10-11 am. Interment 10 am Monday, September 11, 2017 at the Dayton National Cemetery.
