Willie Mae Moore was born on December 1, 1938, in Troy, Alabama, to the late Will Baker and Luvester Baker. On May 16, 2026, she peacefully departed this earthly life and entered into eternal rest.
She received her education in Troy, Alabama, where she graduated before later relocating to Dayton, Ohio. During the 1960s, she moved to Dayton and began building a life rooted in faith, family, hard work, and love. It was in Dayton that she continued her life’s journey and was united in marriage to Willie Roy Moore. Though their marriage later ended, they remained close friends. Together, they were blessed with children, cherished memories, and a lasting family legacy.
As a hardworking and dedicated woman, she spent many years working in the manufacturing and factory industry. She later became a skilled cosmetologist, serving others with care, grace, and dedication.
At an early age, she accepted Christ and remained a woman of strong faith throughout her life. Her spiritual journey was nurtured through fellowship and worship at Mt. Moriah M. B. Church, under the leadership of the late Rev. Morris Smith; Mt. Gilead M. B. Church, under the leadership of the late Rev. James Stringer; and later Pleasant Green M. B. Church, under the leadership of late Rev. Hence Coats. In each season, her love for the Lord remained steadfast as she continued to worship, serve, and live a life rooted in faith.
Music and faith were deeply rooted in her family. She and her siblings shared a strong musical foundation, and their love for gospel music became a meaningful part of their lives and legacy. That foundation of faith, worship, and song was not only lived by her, but was also passed down to her children and family.
A special gift of singing was placed upon her life. As one of the founding members of The Golden Voices of Harmony of Dayton, Ohio, she helped establish a gospel quartet group whose ministry touched many lives. Among the songs recorded, she sang lead vocals on “I Found a Friend,” recorded with Versa Records, and also contributed background vocals on other songs. Through The Golden Voices of Harmony, a beautiful sisterhood and bond was formed as they ministered together around the world, sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ through song.
She also loved to cook and bring her family together. Family gatherings were special to her, and she found joy in preparing meals, sharing laughter, and creating lasting memories with those she loved. She was especially known for her candied yams and sweet potato pies, which brought comfort and joy to many. She was also an avid bingo player and enjoyed the fellowship and fun it brought into her life.
This beloved woman of faith was preceded in death by her parents, Will Baker and Luvester Baker; her former husband and close friend, Willie Roy Moore; and her siblings, I.C. Purdue, Willie “Jack” Baker, and Freddie “Ed” Baker.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory her children, Kenneth (Lavone) Moore, Roderick (Janice) Moore Sr., Katina (Raleigh) Thornton Jr., and Bobby Moore; her six grandchildren, Darion Lewis, Da’Vonn Stollings, D’Maughn Stollings-Moore, Da’Kwan Moore, Roderick D. Moore Jr., and Kiara Robinson; fourteen great-grandchildren; her siblings, Reverend Hubert Baker, Annie Baker, and Jimmy Baker; her special niece, Angela Baker; her best friend, Katherine Tyson, affectionately known as Aunt Kat; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, church family, and dear friends.
Willie Mae Moore will be remembered for her faith, her strength, her beautiful voice, her loving spirit, and the joy she brought to those around her. Though her earthly song has ended, the melody of her life will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
