Willie Joe Long Jr. was born on August 5, 1936, in Newnan, GA, to the late Willie Long Sr. and Elizabeth (Bridges) Long. He went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 24, 2025.
Joe completed his schooling in the Dayton Public School system. He worked and retired from Daimler Chrysler after a long career of loyal service. After retirement, he volunteered and helped serve in the community at Senior Resource Connection Dayton. Joe was baptized in Jesus’ name, received the gift of the Holy Ghost, and was a member of Bethesda Temple Apostolic Church.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents and son, Sherawn Younge Sr.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 37 years, Mary Long; his children, Denise Jackson, Willie J. (Vickie) Long III, Charles (Arleen) Long, Lisa (Kim) Colvin, Kim Smith, Thersa Wilson, Carmella (David) Calbe, Val Hummons, Darris Brewer, Adriene Grier, Marla McIntosh, Marletta Clay; his stepson, Damon (Lisa) Peavy Sr.; grandsons, Sherawn Younge, Jr. and Damon (Hannah) Peavy Jr.; sister, Hazel Woodard; a host of other family members and friends.
Special thanks to DaVita Dayton North Dialysis Center. For so many years, you not only cared for Joe’s health but also treated him with respect, compassion, and warmth. Your dedication made a difficult journey more bearable, and we are forever grateful.
With heartfelt thanks to Erika Lighter, Nursing Assistant, and Diamond McGee, RN Unit Manager, at Siena Woods Care Center, for the genuine support you both demonstrated in assisting Joe. Your professionalism, warmth, and dedication brought comfort and peace. We will never forget your kindness.
Funeral service 11 am Thursday, October 2, 2025 at House of Wheat Funeral Home, 2107 N. Gettysburg Ave., Dayton, OH. Visitation 9 am- 11 am. Family will receive friends 10 am- 11 am. Interment Shiloh Park Cemetery.
