Willie D. Chancellor was born to the late Curtis and Mattie Mae Chancellor on September 8th, 1938, in Rockford, Alabama. He entered eternal rest on September 8th, 2023.
Willie D. was known to many as a fun-loving person who loved life to the fullest. He loved hanging out with his family and was always looking forward to them coming to Dayton to hang out and grilling in his casino “aka” the garage in his back yard. Willie retired from Dayton Power Light company after working there for 30 years. Willie never fathered any children of his own, but always said that all his nieces and nephews were his kids and he loved them all, as they loved him also.
Willie was a member of the Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church; He gave to the church on a weekly basis although he was not able to attend weekly. Willie had a very kind and giving heart he was always giving to his favorite charity, St. Jude for Children with Cancer, Willie D. enjoyed fishing and hunting in his past time, He also loved to cook, one of his favorite things to cook was collard greens, lima beans, ham hocks and homemade soup. His love of cooking came from his mother.
Willie D. was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years Mable F. Chancellor; his parents Curtis and Mattie Mae Chancellor; his sister Christine Matthews; and his six brothers Charles Chancellor, Cezelle Chancellor, Amos Chancellor, Samuel Chancellor, Bonnie Chancellor and Charles Lindberg Chancellor and his nephew Jurail K. Chancellor who was a son to him and would travel to Dayton from Alabama whenever he needed him.
Willie D. leaves to cherish his memories his three sister who he called the “girls” Ann Myles of Middletown, New York, Annie Pearl Reese of Marietta, Georgia and Lucille Hollenquest of Herndon, Virginia, two sister-in-law Lucy Bigsby of Dayton, Ohio and Isabella Chancellor of Birmingham, Alabama, a very special friend Charlie Fields who was like a brother to him, Charlie looked after him and cared for him in his time of need, three special nephews, Sean Chancellor, Reginald Chancellor and Curtis Chancellor a special niece Gloria Matthews who cooked and cleaned for him, along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and extended family members.
Visitation 9 am- 11 am Saturday, September 16, 2023, at House of Wheat Funeral Home, 2107 N. Gettysburg Avenue, Dayton, OH. Family will receive friends 10 am- 11am. Funeral service begins at 11 am. Interment West Memory Gardens.
