Walter McNair, Jr.

Walter McNair, Jr., was born on December 5, 1936 to the late Walter McNair, Sr. and Marie McNair-Langford. He was a graduate of Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, Class of 1955. He worked at Miami Valley Hospital, Frigidaire, and retired from Chrysler in 1999.

Walter, better known as “Walt” or “Big Mac”, was a loving husband, father and grandfather and Big PawPaw. While he was menacing in stature, he was also a gentle giant. In his younger years, he loved to draw, fish, bowl and play cards. His favorite thing to do was spend time with his family; whether it was a family reunion or a quick road trip to Chicago, Virginia or Atlanta, he was all about being around his loved ones. 

Walter McNair, Jr. was preceded in death by his parents, Walter McNair, Sr. and Marie McNair-Langford; his loving wife, Gloria J. McNair; brothers, Elzie McNair and Charles Kimbro; sisters, Theresa McNair; brother-in-law, Edward “BeBee” Bohannon. 

He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Cornelia “Connie” (Wilson) Mallory, Gregory “Greg” McNair, Lawyanna “Shelly” (Lawrence) Marshall and Walter T. “Terry” (Yvette) McNair; sister, Elese McNair and sister-in-law, Patricia McNair; grandchildren, LaTashia “Tash” (William III) Robinson, Tonya “T” McNair, Gregory “Greg” McNair, II, Tracy “Trace” McNair, Ta’Sheena ``Sheena” (Gregory) Walker and Terrica McNair; great-grandchildren, William Robinson IV, Skylar Robinson, Ayden Foster, Zoshia Reising, Ti’erra McNair, Layla Walker, Melanie Walker and Madison McNair; special nephews, Michael (Rachel) Sims, Michael (Darlene) White; nieces, Rochelle McNair-Smith, Roslyn (Roger) Walton, Rolanda McNair-Morehead, Tamencia McNair and Indigo Rhodes; nephews, Elzie (Alice) McNair and Jivano McNair; special friends, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur and Brenda Smith, Della Brooks and Stephen Mundy as well as a host of family and friends.

Rest in peace. Daddy you will be missed, but not forgotten.

Funeral service will be held 11 am Monday, July 26, at Mt. Olivet C.O.G.I.C., 920 S. Euclid Ave. Visitation 9-10 am. Masonic service from 10-11 am. Interment West Memory Gardens. Arrangements entrusted to House of Wheat Funeral Home, Inc.
