Virginia Lee Williams, age 88, of Dayton, Ohio, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2025.
Born on December 19, 1936, Virginia was the daughter of the late Lois Clayton Beaty and Losa Mae Goosby. She was born in Pennington Gap, Virginia, and spent her formative years in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, before moving with her family to Dayton, Ohio, in 1955.
Virginia was a proud graduate of Roosevelt High School in Dayton and furthered her education by earning an associate’s degree from Morristown College, a historically Black college and university.
She dedicated 36 years of service to the Dayton Postal Service before retiring. Not one to sit still, Virginia then went on to commit 12 years to the Dayton Public Schools, retiring for a second time.
A woman of deep faith, Virginia loved the Lord and prayed fervently for her family. She publicly recommitted her life to Christ and was baptized on December 2, 2018, at Believers Christian Fellowship Church, where she was an active and welcoming member, often greeting others as they entered the doors. Her life’s purpose was rooted in her faith, and her favorite scripture was Proverbs 3:5-6. "Silent Night" was her cherished song.
Virginia was known for her loving, kind spirit and "heart of gold"—a force to be reckoned with whose energy was infectious. She loved cooking, baking, and hosting parties for her loved ones. In her leisure time, she enjoyed playing her slot machines, and was a talented hobbyist, creating beautiful ceramic pieces and meticulously assembling her Christmas Village each year.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved grandson, Justin Lamar Smith; siblings, Juanita (Clarence) McGue, Sarah (Calvin Sr.)Hines, Alfred Beaty, & Danny Boyd Beaty; her aunt, Maureen (Roy) Woods; nieces, Yolanda Beaty, Allison Beaty & Sandra McGue; nephews Christopher Hines, Calvin Hines Jr. & Timothy Beaty Sr.; and great nephew Chad Hines.
She is survived by her sisters, Priscilla Beaty and Tanya McDougle, both of Dayton, Ohio. As well as her sister in law Jerry (Alfred) Beaty, of Pickerington, Ohio.
Virginia leaves a legacy of love to be cherished by her children, Nolan (Agnes) Williams, Stephane Heflin, Melissa Cunningham, Evonne Williams, and Stanley (Jasmine) Williams. She is also survived by her godchildren, Deontae Hayes & Oliver Mayes; her many grandchildren, Yalonda Slaughter, Theodore Slaughter, Crystal Smith, Eric (Angela) Evans, Danisha Willard, LeStanle’ Williams, Stephanie Williams, Domon Cunningham, D’Meesha Williams, Mi’Shunna Williams, Yasmine Laguerre, Jonathan Muniz, Malachai Williams, King Sage Williams, & Serenity Worthy; a multitude of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Virginia also leaves behind her dear friend Emma Sue Rakestraw and a host of friends, many of whom were special enough that she considered to be her own children.
