Vernon Earl West, age 81, of Xenia, Ohio, born November 6, 1939, transitioned this life to everlasting life on October 10, 2021.
Hard work was instilled in him from boyhood as his parents put him and his brothers to work on all aspects of the farm. This carried over into his long-term career at Morris Bean & Co. from which he retired to enjoy travel with his wife, bowling, coaching, and as much golf as he could fit in.
As a child, he was baptized at St. Paul AME Church of Cedarville, Ohio. Along with his brothers, he was a member of the choir and other youth activities. Enjoying a lifelong love of athletics, he participated in softball leagues, track and field, and basketball throughout his school years. As a student at Central State University, he was a member of the intercollegiate football team.
In his later years, his joy and purpose were found in his relationship with his granddaughters, shopping, watching movies, eating treats, and late-night chats about life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon L. West and Frances P. West (nee Scott); wife, Joné West (nee Bullard); brothers, David N. West (surviving wife, Joyce) and Howard L. West Sr.
He is survived by his loving brother, James L. West (Joanne); devoted daughter, Kristen West; granddaughters, Ona and Olivia Odje; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and adoring friends.
