Verniece Owens Obituary

Verneice Marshel Owens (Allen), better known as “Michelle”, was born March 23, 1961 in Clarksdale, Mississippi to Stella E. Ellington and Joseph Allen Sr. before relocating to Dayton, Ohio in 1969. As a teen she received her education in the Dayton Public School System where she began playing multiple sports such as basketball, softball, and track and field. She also worked as a lifeguard at the community swimming pool, which allowed her to express her passion for ensuring the well being of others.

During those teenage years Michelle gave birth to her first child,(Maurice Allen), and they became the duo that everybody grew to know and love. During those young exciting years Michelle developed a reputation for being outgoing, fun loving, entertaining, protective, and let’s not forget feisty. Now equipped with all her new character traits Michelle’s reputation and circle of friends began to rapidly grow, which led her to becoming one of the most well known people in her community. During the late 80’s she gave birth to two more boys, (Garry Grier Jr.)(Marcus D. Allen). By the early 90’s Michelle became an active member of Union Missionary Baptist Church led by the late Rev. Hessie Swain. She remained an active member until the early 2000’s where she then became an active member of The Bible Class Missionary Baptist Church led by Rev. Arnold.

Michelle was joined in marriage to Eddie Owens Sr. on February 23, 2016. Despite being together for twenty years they were loyal and devoted to one another for eight amazing years as husband and wife. Over the years Michelle loved spending time with her husband, children, family, and friends. Michelle and Eddie’s home became a hub for family gatherings and a safe haven for anyone in need. Michelle was always the life of the party. Whether she was on the stove or the grill, or center of attention dancing and singing to music, she always kept an energy that was unmatched.

On February 19, 2024, Verneice Marshel Owens was called home to be with the lord. She was preceded in death by her (Grandparents) Steward E. and Lula B. Harrison, (Mother) Stella E.
