Tyson Coker Obituary

Tyson Aldrich Coker, a devoted servant of God, loving husband, father, and a beacon of joy, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2025, at the age of 77. Born in Dayton, Ohio, on December 30, 1947, he spent his entire life serving his family, church, and community with boundless energy and a joyful spirit.

Tyson was raised in Dayton, where he graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1966. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree, equipping himself for a life dedicated to service both in his professional career and personal commitments. Tyson served honorably in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Sergeant during his four-year tenure, an experience that instilled in him values of discipline and duty that he carried throughout his life.

The union of Tyson and Lizzie P. Matthews on September 17, 1994, marked a pivotal point in his life.  Lizzie P. was the center of his world.  Their marriage epitomized passion and partnership. Their partnership in marriage and business with Lizzie P. Productions reflected their shared dreams and commitment to creating lasting memories and fostering community bonds. Strengthened by their faith, Tyson and Lizzie's relationship was a sanctuary of mutual love and respect, rooted in their dedication to one another and their shared spiritual journey.  They walked out their marriage vows with relentless devotion.  She was his Queen and He was her King.

Tyson's work at Lakeview Farms, where he retired after a career in quality control, was marked by meticulous attention to detail and unwavering dedication. However, it was his work at the Inspiration Church that truly highlighted his calling. Tyson was a founding member, serving as Lead Deacon since 2011, and also held key roles as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer. His leadership extended beyond administrative duties; he was the Building and Grounds Manager and led by example, showing up for tasks large and small.  When called on he would answer with his customary reply of, "give me 10 minutes" no matter the hour.

For Tyson, serving the church was both his worship and joy. Whether filling the baptismal pool, shoveling snow, stage design, setting up communion, or capturing moments as the church photographer and videographer, he approached each task with an evident skip in his step and a ready smile. He volunteered countless hours, driven not by obligation, but a profound love for Jesus Christ and his church community.

Tyson was known for his articulate nature and innovative approach, coupled with a readiness to help wherever needed. He was a joyful presence, a man whose happiness was contagious, and his words could uplift the heaviest hearts. His wife and family, next to God, were his greatest treasure.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willis B. Coker, II and Sybil Aldridge Coker, and his brother, Willis B. Coker, III.

Tyson leaves to cherish his memory his  beloved wife Lizzie P. Coker; his children, Carla Coker, Justin Edmonds, Dareon Johnson, Neveah Edmonds, Amaya Edmonds, and Israel Tyson Edmonds-Coker; his grandchildren Aliviya Holmes, Jayce Brandon, Justin Edmonds Jr., KenNya Jarman, Jaxon Thatcher, and Lettie Young; his great-grandson Gabriel Holmes; Brothers in love: Chris(Anna) Matthews, Maurice Matthews, Ervin(Keyea) Matthews, Patrick(Staci) Matthews; Sisters in love: Belinda(David) Stenson and Melany Wheat, a host of nieces , nephews, special cousins, other relatives, and friends.
