Tayonna Rashaundra Barnett, age 19, was born on April 1, 2004, in Dayton, Ohio. Tayonna passed away unexpectedly on February 4, 2024, after a medical emergency at home.
Tayonna, a senior at DECA High School and a beloved part of the DECA family since the fourth grade, was scheduled to graduate in May. Creative, generous, quick-witted, and fun, she would be the first to tell you that academics did not come easy for her, but despite numerous setbacks and challenges, she showed up every day to get the job done, usually with a smile on her face.
She loved good music, old and new, and could often be heard humming or singing along to whatever was playing through her headphones. Drawing and painting were among her favorite pastimes as were cooking and baking, especially with her mom and her friends.
Tayonna loved her people and brought out their love for one another. She nurtured and cared for so many of those lucky enough to be in her life, adults and children, human or not, and she had a reputation among many for giving the very best hugs. She adored animals, particularly dogs, and rescued numerous off the streets of Dayton; her favorites, however, were her furry neighbors Louis and Baker who recognized her as family and loved her at least as much as she loved them.
She is survived by her mother, Tana Barrett; her father Robert Barnett; her father Jerry Taste; her siblings Jeyonna Taste, Jericca Taste, and Rayshean Barrett; her godparents, Jason Hillard and Ann Charles Watts; her god siblings, John Thomas Hillard, Brian Hillard, and Sabrina Hillard; her aunties Dana Barrett, Marquita George, and Asia George; her uncles Wesley George, David George, Justin George, and Julius George; her cousin Dar’Keisha George, and many other extended family, god family, and friends.
Funeral service 11 am Friday, February 9, 2024, at House of Wheat Funeral Home, 2107 North Gettysburg Avenue, Dayton, Ohio. Visitation 9 am- 11 am at which time family will receive friends. Interment Woodland Cemetery.
