Sylvia L. Clayborne

Sylvia Clayborne, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2024, at the age of 98. Born on June 27, 1926, in St. Clairsville, Ohio, Sylvia was the daughter of Alice M. Younger.

Sylvia graduated from St. Clairsville High School and went on to dedicate 30 years of her career to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, where she was known for her unwavering dedication and strong work ethic. Her commitment to her work and her ability to foster a supportive community among her colleagues left a lasting impact.

On February 20, 1960, Sylvia married John M. Clayborne, with whom she shared 45 years of marriage filled with love and companionship until his passing. Together, they built a beautiful family and life, filled with cherished memories and adventures. During their time together, they were blessed with a son, John D.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her mother, Alice M. Younger, and her beloved husband, John M. Clayborne. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John and Leslye Clayborne; her grandson, William B.; her bonus grandchildren, Marshall and Alicia Bivens; her great-granddaughter, Kendall B.; her bonus grandsons, Tavis and Trevor; and her longtime friends, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond and Roberta Shackleford. Sylvia also leaves behind a host of other family members and friends who will miss her dearly.

Sylvia's life was a testament to love, strength, and resilience. Her gentle spirit and unwavering kindness touched the hearts of everyone she met. She will be remembered for her warmth, her wit, and the incredible legacy she leaves behind in her family and friends.

Funeral service 11:30 am Thursday, August 15, 2024 at Bethel Baptist Church, 401 S. Paul Laurence Dunbar St., Dayton, OH. Visitation 10:30 am- 11:30 am at which time family will receive friends. Interment Dayton National Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to House of Wheat Funeral Home.  

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Sylvia's name to a charity of your choice, as a tribute to her generous and giving nature.
