Stephen L Mathews

Stephen L. Mathews, age 64, was born in Dayton, Ohio on October 2, 1961 to the late Willie F. Mathews Sr. and Mattie V. Mathews. Stephen passed away Monday, November 3, 2025 at Miami Valley Hospital.

Stephen graduated from Fairborn High School in 1981.  He subsequently enlisted in the United States Navy and embarked on a global journey.  In life, Stephen possessed a humorous sense of humor.  He was fond of dancing, music, and having a good time. He cherished his family with genuine affection.

Along with his parents, Stephen was preceded in death by stepmother, Barbara A. Mathews; siblings, Michael Mathews, Willie F. Mathews Jr., and Russell E. Mathews; brother-in-law, Michael W. Davis.

Stephen is survived by his brother, Jeffrey (Theresa) Dalaney of Hyattsville, Maryland; sisters, Pamela (Willie) Peay of Elgin, South Carolina, Jacqueline Davis of Dayton, Ohio; Erica (David Evans) Mathews of McDonough, Georgia; special cousin, Pat Sheffield of Antioch, Tennessee; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral Service 11 am Friday, November 7, 2025 at House of Wheat Funeral Home, 2107 N. Gettysburg Avenue, Dayton, OH. Visitation 9 am- 11 am. Family will receive friends 10 am - 11 am. Minister Arthur Bell officiating.
