Mrs. Sonia Toyann Underwood, age 58, of Dayton, OH, was born November 21, 1966, to Karon Oliver and Charles Roach, in Cincinnati, OH. She departed this life peacefully Friday, August 8, 2025.
Sonia was a graduate of Meadowdale High School, Dayton, OH (1985). She completed two years of college at the University of Cincinnati. Sonia was a respected and valued co-worker at National City Mortgage where she worked as a document processor. She was the CEO of Underwood Trucking and worked as a paraprofessional for Edison Elementary School.
Sonia was an active and faithful member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, where she loved worshipping and praising God.
She loved spending time with her grandchildren and family, singing, dancing and being the life of the party.
Sonia was preceded in death by her father, Charles Roach; stepfather, Jackie L. Johnson; and niece, Allison Oliver; brothers-in-law, Anthony Render and Robert Butler I.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband of 33 years, James Anderson Underwood; mother, Karon Johnson (Jackie L. Johnson); siblings, Dorian Oliver, Tahnee Butler, Colleen Roach, Autumn Render; children, Erica Michelle Underwood, James Anderson Underwood II, Nechelle Monique Underwood, Ja’Lyn Toyann Underwood; grandchildren, Donyae Nevins, Antwan Beard, Kenneth Scott, James Underwood III, Rai’Lyn Fulton, Jersey Underwood; as well as a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral service 11 am Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 2067 N. Gettysburg Ave., Dayton, OH. Visitation 10 am- 11 am at which time family will receive friends. Arrangements entrusted to House of Wheat Funeral Home.
