Sondra Kirby Obituary

Sondra A. Kirby, was born August 27, 1941 in Dayton, Ohio to John and Luzell Clark. Sondra matriculated through the Dayton Public School System, graduating from Roosevelt Senior High School in 1959. She attended Ohio University, Wilberforce University and the University of Dayton where she earned her Master's degree in Secondary Education/English Communications.

She retired from the Dayton Public Schools completing 36 years of teaching. Following her educational journey, she enjoyed travel, spending time with her children, grandchildren and the love of her life, C. Benjamin.

Affiliated with Bethel and Shiloh Baptist Churches, Resurrection Catholic Parish and the House of Faith, she led many a Prayer Session.

Her Professional Organization Memberships included: Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Phi Delta Kappa, Metropolitan Civic Women, 21st Century Grandmothers Club, NJROTC Program at Grace St. Green High School, Voices of Praise Singing Group and numerous prayer groups in the Dayton Miami Valley area.

Preceded in death by her grandparents, Deacon Lonnie and Jessie Marbury; parents, John and Luzell Clark; in-laws, Helen and Rufus Benjamin Kirby; sister-in-law, Delores Clark of New Mexico; brothers-in-law, Elton S. and James E. Kirby, C. Delton Reynolds; sister, Sandra Q. Morgan.

Survived by husband, C. Benjamin Kirby of Dayton; children, Craig Benjamin (Sophia), Washington, D.C., Cameron B. (Texas), Cindy B HeavenNezCree Kirby; brother, John Clark, Jr.; grandchildren, Zachary Sharfin (Idaho), Christopher Sharfin (West Pointe), Maya (Texas) and Hannah Grace (Washington, D.C.); great grandchildren, Arthur Sharfin and Rosemary Leann Killian; sisters-in-law, Theresa Reynolds (Michigan), Margie Jones (Virginia) and Deborah Kirby (Virginia); brothers-in-law, Donald R. Kirby (Virginia) and John W. Kirby (Virginia); special God family, The Wilbourne Family, Tyree, Shawnya, Tyree Joseph, Roman, and Kobe. Anthony and Shamika Davis, Jackie Ringer, Tommie E. Morgan, Waymon and Ora Moore, Delvin and Bonita Terry, and numerous friends of faith, professional colleagues and members of Roth High School, Class of 1973. 

Walk-through visitation 9-11 am Monday, February 15, at the House of Wheat Funeral Home, Inc., 2107 N. Gettysburg Ave. Live stream service at 11 am.
