Saundra J. Metcalf

Saundra J. Payne-Metcalf, age 75, born in Dayton, Ohio to James N. Sr. and Rita Payne, went to be with the Lord on July 27, 2022, at Miami Valley Hospital. Saundra was a 1965 graduate of Nettie Lee Roth High School. Saundra retired from the former Dayton Mental Health Center (Twin Valley MHC) after 26 years of service.

Saundra loved the Lord and had accepted Christ at an early age. She was a caring and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and cousin. She loved her family and was the life of the party at all family functions. Saundra was an excellent cook and enjoyed serving delicious meals to family and friends. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching all sports.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, Leo and Mamie Wilson; sister, Wiletha Payne-Blackshear; brother, Elliott Payne; and aunt, Wiletha McGuire.

Saundra leaves to cherish her memory a loving and devoted daughter, Donneattea (Sidney) Walker; sons, Doyle (Kizzy) Metcalf and Daryl (Tammy) Metcalf; special sons/nephews, Eric, Brian ( Keinishia), Vincent (Lorena) Payne; sister, Francis Flippen; brother, James N. Jr. (Donna) Payne; sister-in-law, Debra Payne, aunt, Ruth Bettye; grandchildren, Danielle , Doyle Jr., Daryl Jr., Sidney Jr., Malik, and Justin; great grandson, El Karter Metcalf; cousins, Apostle Arthur L. Sr. (Charlotte) McGuire, Raymond (Crystal) McGuire, Anthony Smith, Patricia (Merlton) Brandenburg, Jewell Haqq, Tina (Doug) Toles, Roberta Conner, Sederia Butler-Williams; extended loved ones, William, Ria, Nicole, Aliyah and Alexis; a host of other nephews, nieces, relatives and friends, including lifelong friend, Barbara  McDaniel. 

Funeral service will be held 12 noon Saturday, August 6, at the House of Wheat Funeral Home, Inc., 2107 N. Gettysburg Ave. Visitation 9 am until the time of service. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service. (Mask Required). Interment Greencastle Cemetery.
