Ross Averette Obituary

Life and Legacy

Ross Averette was born on January 2, 1951, in Dayton, Ohio, to the late Margaret Averette and William Stafford. He spent most of his life in Dayton before relocating to Arizona, where he lived for many years before eventually returning home. Ross grew up in the Highview Hills neighborhood and attended Highview Elementary School and Dunbar High School.

Ross was known for his warm spirit and genuine love for people. He never met a stranger and had a natural gift for making others feel welcome. Family and friends meant everything to him, and he cherished the time he spent with those closest to him.

Ross enjoyed many hobbies that reflected his creative and joyful nature. He loved drawing, singing, and playing his guitar. At one time, he proudly spoke of having his own singing group, where he and his group members spent hours singing their favorite songs from the 1960s and early 1970s.

Fishing was another passion of Ross’s. Being near the water brought him peace and happiness. Whenever he had the opportunity, you could find him fishing at someone’s lake. If he could have fished every day, he certainly would have.

On March 6, 2026, Ross departed this life peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Averette; his beloved wife, Sheryle Diane Averette; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friend.

Cherished Memories

Ross leaves to cherish his memory his loving children: Marsha Stargell, Kristie Lynn Young, Verenie Averette-Brown (Timothy), Valerie Phillips, and Erricks Averette. He also leaves behind his bonus children: Tarik Dedrick, Javanna Baker, and Jamarl “JB” Baker.

Ross is survived by his siblings: Chris Averette (Willa), Charles “Tina” Averette (Deborah), Cheryl Averette (Donald), Ronald “Monia” Averette, and Robert “Rowboat” Averette.

His legacy continues through his 21 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, who will forever carry his love and memory in their hearts. Ross also leaves a devoted friend, Zita Joe Cochran, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will cherish the many memories they shared with him.
