Robert Moore Obituary

We called him Husband, Deddy, Uncle, Cousin, and Friend.  Robert Lewis Moore peacefully passed Friday, August 19, 2022. His transition was much like the life he lived; quiet, dignified, peaceful and surrounded by his beloved family.

Robert was born November 2, 1931, in Middletown, Ohio to Howard and Susie Moore. He was the fourth of nine children. Robert was an “outdoor” kid. That love of the outdoors coupled with his ethic of hard work served him well in the Boy Scouts. Robert earned the Boy Scout’s highest rank of Eagle Scout. He also developed a love of swimming and diving. In his teen years, he worked as a lifeguard during summer months at the community pool. He graduated from Middletown High School where he played football and ran track. He was a pillar to his community. He led and participated in countless church activities and several community projects in his younger years.

Robert joined the U. S. Air Force after high school in 1950 and served as an aircraft radio operator/technician in the 60th Troop Carrier Wing. His C-124 Cargo plane flew troops and their equipment all over the world including Greenland, Iceland, Germany, and Korea. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal before leaving the service in July of 1954.  After the Air Force, he attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering and other technical schools. He later worked for the government at the Defense Electronics Supply Center (DESC) in Columbus, Ohio and then in Kettering, Ohio when the depot relocated there in 1967. He retired with 35 years of combined government service.

He met Maxine Dallas, the love of his life on a blind date arranged by a close friend. They married in 1955. Four children were born of their union: Pamela, Victor, Robert II, and Bradley Scott. Robert was a proud father who loved his children. He also loved bowling and became quite the avid bowler. He participated in several bowling leagues in the Dayton area. His accomplishments included winning numerous trophies and awards. He bowled the coveted 300 game twice!  Robert’s high work ethic continued into his adult years. He was always involved in the “side gig” economy even before this term came to be. His side gigs included landscaping, catering, janitorial services, and handyman. He even umpired recreational softball and little league baseball games to keep himself busy and support his family.

Robert and Maxine joined College Hill Community Presbyterian Church in the late 60’s. Robert quickly gained passion to serve his fellow church congregation in any area requested. He became a Deacon and served in various roles at the church including becoming a member of the Buildings and Grounds committee and the Audio-Visual team. Day or night, for any church need, Robert always made himself available. Robert and Maxine loved hosting people, organizing family reunions and casual impromptu get togethers. It was simply Robert’s nature to help family members with any need, big or small.  Everyone was important to him.

Robert was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maxine; seven siblings and his parents. He is survived by his children, Pamela Moore, Victor H. (Alfiya) Moore, Robert L. II (Mary) Moore, and Bradley S. Moore; sibling, Marie Hunter; grandchildren, Monica (Lloyd) Hathcock, Richard A. Jones, Robert A. (Nicole) Jones; and a loving host of great-grandchildren, cousins, relatives, and friends.

Robert was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His devotion to his family was unmatched. He was also a people person who thrived in the service of others.  He never met a stranger. His kind spirit, strong will and notable generosity will be deeply missed.  As he grew older, he would often say, “God is good” and ended all of his prayers by saying, “Amen, Amen, Amen!!!”  His legacy lives on in his family and in the hearts of all those whose lives he touched.
