ROBERT BROOKS, JR, age 77, New Birth was on Wednesday, June 17, 2020. Robert was born September 3, 1942 in Shelby, NC, the third eldest of six siblings, to the late Robert Brooks Sr. and Emma Norris.
Robert was a graduate of Roosevelt High School, Class of 1963. He served 4 years in the Air Force and retired from the service in 1967. After the service, he worked a few jobs finally finding a career at Southwestern Portland Cement Company and retiring after 25 years. Not wanting to just sit around, he spent the last 5 years of his life working for the Dayton Public Schools system as a custodian extraordinaire. He was very dedicated and awarded for his high work ethic.
Robert accepted Christ at an early age while attending Mount Calvary Baptist Church. He was also a faithful member of The New Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, where he became a deacon over the Treasury Department. He loved the Lord and put his trust in him.
Robert was known as a hard worker and always provided for his family. He enjoyed spending time with family and participating in competitive bowling. His favorite past time was listening to the Mighty Clouds of Joy on Pandora, sitting outside on the porch enjoying the weather.
Fifty-five years ago, Robert married the love of his life, Rosezetta, and together they shared a life of love, patience, friendship, and family. Their union was blessed with four children: Yolanda L. Brooks, Robert Brooks III, Andre’ L. Brooks, and Phillip M. Brooks.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Brooks Sr. and Emma Norris; stepmother, Margaret Eva Mason Brooks; daughter, Yolanda L. Brooks; sisters, Helen Glover, Carolyn Boone, and Nervreen (Susie) Strickland.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Rosezetta; sons, Robert Brooks III, Andre’ L. Brooks and Phillip M. Brooks; sister, Donnis Johnson; brothers, Cleveland Brooks and Alexander (Bobby) Brooks; granddaughters, Al-Lamontau (Montie) S. Brooks, Aerionna L. Brooks, Destini S. Brooks, and Paris L. Brooks; grandsons, Zachery D. Brooks, Khali A. Brooks, Noel Brooks; great granddaughter, Mariah E. Benson; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-n-law, brothers-n-law and friends.
