Patricia Sanford Obituary

Patricia Ann Sanford, aka Patty, Ms. Pat, Patricia, Nanaw Pat, born August 22, 1939 in Marlinton, West Virginia to Enoch T. “Bunk” Lindsay and Virginia E. Jordon-Lindsay, departed this life Saturday, April 17, 2021 at the Heartland of Miamisburg Nursing Facility.

Patricia, her father and brothers, along with her father’s sister, Emma Virginia Lindsay “Aunt Gin”, relocated to Dayton after the death of her mother in 1941. She attended Dayton Public Schools, was a student at Dunbar High School and proudly earned her GED in 1970. She then attended Sinclair Community College, studying accounting and became a Certified Accountant working at Dayton Walther and later, LM Berry, where she retired.

Patricia loved the Lord and served God faithfully at First Wesleyan Methodist Church, where she raised her sons, sang in the choir, and operated as the Church Administrator working wherever she was needed to further the cause of Christ, until the Pandemic hit and her health began to fail.

Patty loved sports and could be found playing softball and bowling on multiple leagues during her younger years. She also enjoyed following Dunbar Teams and attending whatever little league her boys were involved in. Her infectious smile and hearty laugh will be greatly missed.

Patty was preceded in death by her parents; aunt, Emma V. Lindsay; husband of 37 years, Clifford Sanford; brothers, William and John Lindsay; sister, Barbara Jean Lindsay.

She leaves to cherish her memory, sons, Morris (Yvette) Smith, Dwayne Smith, James “Jimmie” Smith and Michael (Shelah) Sanford; grandchildren, Stephen (Billie), Jamico, Antonio, Byron, Sr., Jason (Tamara), Lauren Sharisse, Lindsey and Lauren LaChelle Smith, Qianya, Dominec, Danyel, Daymian and Michael Jr. Sanford; 12 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; special daughter, Diane; sister-in-law, Shirley (Morgan) Thomas of Texas; special friends, Leola and Darnell Baker, Naydeen Harris, Wyvonia Reese and Carman Oliver; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, many other church family and friends.
