Odessa M. Lawson

Odessa Lawson, age 56, departed her life peacefully on July 1, 2022, with her loving husband and children by her side. 

Odessa was born on October 28, 1965, in Louisville, Kentucky to Charles Gilbert, Sr. and Laurice Dulin (Sherrer). 

Odessa graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in Dayton, Ohio. She married James Lawson, Sr. on March 9, 1993, and to this union were born three children. Nothing was more important to her than her family. 

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Lawrence and Laura Dulin; aunt, Odessa Greer; uncles, Larry Dulin and Louis Dulin; and father- and mother-in-law, Walter Sr. and Gloria Lawson. 

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, James Lawson, Sr.; children, Jasmine (Logan), Gloria (Kenneth), and James Jr.; parents, Charles Gilbert, Sr. (Debra) and Laurice Sherrer; siblings, Charles Gilbert, Jr, Melissa Gilbert, Dominica Gilbert, and Antonia Gilbert; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. 

The family would like to thank everyone for their outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. While Odessa will be dearly missed by many, she would want us to seek comfort in the memories we have of her. 

A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, July 30, at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 27 N. Gettysburg Ave. Family will receive friends 10:30 am until time of service. Arrangements entrusted to House of Wheat Funeral Home, Inc.
