Michael Simmons Obituary

MICHAEL T. SIMMONS, age 57, of Dayton, passed away Sunday, April 3, 2022, at Miami Valley Hospital after a short illness. He was born in Dayton, Ohio February 5, 1965, to Lanier and Cynthia Simmons. After graduating from Colonel White High School, Michael joined the U.S. Marine Corps of which he was very proud of. After the Marines, he came back home to Dayton and was employed at various companies including Time Warner Cable, as an over-the-road truck driver and most recently, he worked for Montgomery County Engineers Office as a road crew technician.

Michael loved spending time with family and friends, and he also loved football – especially the Dallas Cowboys!!  He was a true ride-or-die Cowboys fan and didn’t care what anyone said about it! Before his health began to give him problems, Michael also loved to line dance – which he became pretty good at – and even started learning how to ballroom, which he also enjoyed. Michael didn’t always like to dress up (he loved his casual sweatpants and gym shoes) but when he did…he cleaned up really nice!!

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, and step-father Charles Samuels; grandparents, Lester and Hattie Calloway; sister, Donna (Tina) Cummings; nephew, Steven Calloway, Sr.

He is survived by his loving sisters, Dana Young, Diane Calloway, Margaret (Darius) Montgomery, Gladys McKinney, Gloria (Wayne) Boykin, Bertha (Dwight) Hunt and Annette Tomlin; brothers, Andre’ Jon Sr. (Vicki) Simmons, and Adrian (ArQuetta) Shirley; nieces, Ebony (Henry) Calloway, Keshia Simmons, and Carmen (Adrian) Davis; nephews, Jamareo Simmons, Tyrone (Anisa) Cummings, Jason Sr. (Alice) Cummings, Darius Montgomery, Jr., and Andre’ Jon Simmons, Jr.; aunt, Jennifer (Tim) Moore; uncles, Sylvester “Sid” (Sharon) Calloway, Lester Jr. “Skip” (Gussie) Calloway, and Jimmy (Kaseen) Calloway; daughters, Shannel and Shantel Simmons; great-nieces, Isyss and Zariyah Rayford, Donasia, Jaylyn and Kennedy Cummings; great-nephews, DuJuan Ford, Di’talian Rayford, Steven Calloway, Jr., Donez, Donaven and Jason Cummings, Jr., great-great niece, Alondra Cummings; grandchildren, Janelle Anderson, Dashia and Shanae’ Mood, Melody Lockett, TeDarien and Oliver Hill; loving ex-wife, Robyn Simmons; good friends, Stephan Dickerson and Ronald Richardson; a host of other relatives and numerous friends.
