Michael Eugene Gist, age 74, of Dayton, Ohio, peacefully departed this life on Thursday, October 23, 2025. Born on November 13, 1950, he was the beloved son of the late Lewis James Gist, Jr. and Ella M. Clark.
Michael was a proud graduate of Nettie Lee Roth High School and Sinclair Community College. He later went on to fulfill his passion for the arts in Los Angeles, California, where he worked as an actor, playwright and Stage & Production Manager. He poured his heart into his craft and cherished the opportunity to pour into the youth to create, inspire and perform, working closely with his late brother, Leland P. Smith.
Michael will be remembered for his vibrant spirit, creative soul, quick wit, warm presence, and the deep love he held for his family. His encouragement, wisdom, and gift for making others feel seen and valued were blessings he shared freely.
He leaves to honor his memory two loving sisters, Dorthea “Angel” Gist and Rita F. Robinson; two daughters Mictivic Gist Simpson and Lanla Gist; three grandchildren who adored him, Eric Simpson (24), Shania Simpson (20) and Victor Simpson (18); and a host of relatives, extended family and friends who were blessed to know and love him.
Funeral service 11 am Tuesday, November 11, 2025 at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 3375 W. Siebenthaler Ave, Dayton, OH. Visitation 10 am- 11 am at which time family will receive friends. Arrangements entrusted to House of Wheat Funeral Home.
