Maurice Wendell Lewis Sr. was born on February 14, 1939, to Annie Maple Taylor and John Vance Lewis. Maurice attended St. Vincent’s Catholic school and Nashville public schools.
He attended Pearl High School and played french horn in the high school band. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Tennessee State University in 1966. Maurice accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Corinthian Baptist Church in Nashville. He later joined Mount Olive Baptist Church in Dayton, Ohio and was a faithful member for over 50 years.
Maurice was united in marriage to Mary (Ruth) Cox in 1966. Maurice, Ruth and Diane relocated to Dayton, Ohio in 1966 and he began working at Monsanto as a research Chemist. He was later employed by National Cash Register (NCR) as a Senior Chemist and Manager. He retired from NCR in 2000.
He was an avid music lover and enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and friends. Maurice was a fun, loving and honorable man who was an amazing role model for us all. He is loved by many and will be dearly missed.
He leaves to cherish his wonderful memories, his wife, Ruth; daughters, Linda Holloway, Lillian (Diane) Green (Lemuel), Monica (Nikki) McClatchey (Brad); son, Maurice W. Lewis Jr; granddaughter Brynn McClatchey; grandson, Gregory Holloway; sisters-in-law, Mary Ester Strickland and Mildred Woods (Shirley); brother- in law, Byron Strickland; great nephew, Brian Mosby; bonus sister, Marlene Sisney; sister-cousin Dorothy Poynter; God daughters, Arlisia Caldwell (Darryl), Debra Johnson; bonus daughter, Annette Dean (James) and a host of other special family and friends.
Funeral service 1 pm Friday, September 29, 2023, at Mount Olive Baptist Church, 502 Pontiac Ave, Dayton, Ohio. Visitation 11 am- 1pm. Family will receive friends 12 pm- 1pm. Interment Greenwood Cemetery, Nashville, TN. Arrangements entrusted to House of Wheat Funeral Home, Inc.
