Mrs. Mary C. Carter departed peacefully in Cincinnati, Ohio on November 30, 2022 at the age of 96. Mary was born on November 25, 1926 in Wadley, Alabama to the late Mattie Zachary and Willie S.B. Zachary. She moved from Alabama to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1938 at the age of 12 during World War ll. When she arrived in Cincinnati, she worked for a Jewish family providing home care for 18 years. Shortly after, she moved to Dayton, Ohio where she married the late Johnny Mac Carter, her loving sweetheart for 52 years. Their favorite pass time was fishing. Mary was accomplished at gardening and loved crocheting, sewing, and family celebrations.
Mary was a member of the Eastern Star Lodge in Dayton, Ohio for 5 years as the bookkeeper. Mary participated in a march along with the Eastern Stars in Washington D.C during the President Carter Administration where she visited the White House. She was a dedicated member of the Little Rock Missionary Baptist Church for about 9 years and often volunteered at the church providing transportation for members.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Mauda Lou Zachary and Elaine Tannehill; brothers, David Johnson, John Johnson, Clarence Johnson and Paul Johnson. Mary is survived by a host of nieces, great nieces, nephews and great nephews.
Visitation 10 am- 12 noon Monday, December 12, at House of Wheat Funeral Home, Inc., 2107 N. Gettysburg Avenue. Family will receive friends 11 am- 12 pm. Funeral service at 12 noon. (Mask Required). Interment Miami Valley Gardens Cemetery.
