Marilyn Person Obituary

Marilyn Person, age 62, a resident of Dayton, departed this life Thursday, May 20, 2021. She was born September 22, 1958 in Roanoke, Alabama to Samuel T. and Katie L. Person.

She joined Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Morris Smith. She attended Roosevelt High School until it’s closure and graduated from Wilbur Wright High School. Marilyn continued her education and graduated from Wright State University with a B.S. Degree in Education. She taught in the Dayton Public Schools and worked for various companies such as: Sinclair Community College, Dayton Public Library, and Pioneer Electronics. She later moved to Atlanta, Georgia and joined New Birth Missionary Baptist Church and attended for a few years. She worked for Emory University and Georgia Pacific (GP) Company until her health failed.

Marilyn was an avid reader, self-taught photographer, genealogist, and a collector with numerous collectibles.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her father, Samuel T. Person; sister, Mabelline Person; brother-in-law, Odell Graves; sister-in-law, Cassandra Simpson Person.

She leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Katie L. Person; sisters, Abigail Graves, Bernice Person, Nannette (Jerry) Givhan; brothers, Donald, Melvin and Warren Person; nephews, Gregory L. (Alon) Williams Jr., Melvin L. Person Jr. and Dorian Jones Person; nieces, Gynice Curtis-Person and Katelyn Givhan; great nephew, Gregory L. Williams, III; great nieces, Dream, Meliyah and Amelia Person; special friends, Janice Frazier, Toni Walton, Annise Anderson, Anita Smith, Pamela Weems, Katanyna Smith, and Ben Dye; a host of other relatives and friends.

Walk-through visitation 11 am-1 pm Wednesday, June 2, at the House of Wheat Funeral Home, Inc., 2107 N. Gettysburg Ave. Private Service.
