Margie Fields Obituary

Margie Nell Fields, 85, was born on August 26, 1938, in Lineville, Alabama, to Robert Lee and Catherine Harrison. She transitioned from this life to her Heavenly home on Monday, June 24, 2024, at 5:05 AM at Hospice of Dayton, with her baby right by her side. Margie accepted Christ at an early age at New Hope Baptist Church in Barfield, Alabama, under the leadership of Rev. Claude Johnson. After moving to Dayton, she joined United Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Charles Fair.

Throughout her years of membership at United, she served in various ministries including the Deaconess Ministry, Pastor Aid Ministry, Senior Choir, Usher Ministry, and most recently, the Communications Ministry where she was the sole member. She took great pride in calling each one of the members of United to inform them of important information about things going on within the church as well as checking on each member’s well-being.

Margie Fields worked various jobs. She worked as a cook at DESC in the executive dining room for 10 years. She also worked at Estridge Market for over 20 years. She began her career at Regional Transit Authority (RTA) in 1980, where she worked as a bus driver for 32 years. She was the first woman to drive for 30 years for RTA. She loved each job because it gave her the opportunity to interact with people; however, RTA was her favorite. She took pride in putting on the uniform each day and she loved to tell everyone she was a bus driver and how many miles she had driven throughout her career. She would proudly say, “I have driven A MILLION MILES—without an accident,” with the biggest smile of confidence and satisfaction. She was affectionately known as the “Mother” of RTA. She claimed a lot of co-workers as her children and many of her regular passengers became family as well.

Margie Fields, affectionately known as “Doula” by her family, was kind and loving to everyone she met. She never met a stranger. She always made people feel welcomed and loved. Her greatest passion was cooking. She was known for her famous Macaroni and Cheese and delicious Banana Pudding. She was a die-hard Alabama fan, “ROLL TIDE”! She loved basketball and her favorite player was LeBron James, as she playfully called him her “grandson”. Her favorite thing to watch outside of the Soap Operas was the Game show channel specifically Family Feud because she loved Steve Harvey.

Margie Fields is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Lee and Catherine Harrison; and brothers, Earnest Harrison, Thurman Harrison, and Robert Shelly Harrison. She leaves to cherish her memories her six children, Sherrie Hayes-Sims of Lineville, AL, Dewilda “Pat” Wilson of Dayton, OH, David (Mary) Wilson of Ashland, AL, Helen (Gary) O’Neal of Kennesaw, GA, Clifford (Urmah) Irwin of Dayton, OH, and Rev.
