Lurann Stephens, aged 88, passed away at Springhill at Singing Woods on March 29, 2026 with her loving daughter holding her hand.
Lurann was born on November 10, 1937 in Bowdon, GA to the late Prather Cooley & Virginia Cooley. She came to Dayton, OH in 1957 after marrying the love of her life, Lee Stephens, Jr. She worked for the Dayton Board of Education in Food Service, retiring after 30 plus years of service.
She accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Corinthian Baptist Church, serving on the Usher Board and volunteering on various projects, the last being teaching others how to make quilts. After retiring she often assisted her husband with his construction and remodeling. She helped lay bricks for their own home. She loved to crochet, sew, quilt, read, and watch TV with her husband. She had a beautiful collection of grapes- any and everything that had a grape theme.
Lurann was a loving wife, mother, sister, and aunt. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, Lee Stephens, Jr.; her parents; 2 brothers, Prather L. Cooley, Jr. and W.J. Cooley.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving daughter, Khriscally “Khrissie” Stephens of Dayton, OH; 2 sisters, Martha Nell Buchanan and Cloria (Dorsey) Jones of Bowdon, GA; special sons, Harold Wasp and Harold Johnson; special daughters, Bonita Malone and Marjorie Marbury; along with a host of loving relatives and friends too numerous to name. Special thanks to caregivers, Michelle Donley and the staff at Hearth and Home of Vandalia, Spring Hills Singing Woods, and Day City Hospice.
Interment in Bowdon, GA. Celebration of Life to be held later in the year.
