Lois Singleton Obituary

LOIS MARIE KEE SINGLETON, 73, of Trotwood, OH, passed away April 27, 2021 with her family by her side. She was the daughter of the late Arthur William Kee Sr. and Bettie Louise “Walden” Kee, born in Garysburg, North Carolina on September 29, 1947.  Lois graduated from Gumberry High School in 1965, attended Cortez Peters Business School in Washington, DC, Sinclair Community College in Dayton, OH and Kent State University, Kent, OH.

She actively served her community tirelessly volunteering for Trotwood-Madison City Schools where she was recognized for contributions to Trotwood and Madison Township Baseball Program, served on the Alumni Hall of Fame Committee, Levy Committee and Strategic Planning Committees.  She was on the membership committees for both the Trotwood and Madison Township Historical Societies and an active member of the Sunshine Ministry with Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church. 

She worked for the City of Trotwood for 25 years where she worked her way up to serve as the Clerk of Council to the Mayor and City Council.  She was a member of several professional organizations:

  • Ohio Municipal Clerks Association
    • Clerk of the Year 2000
    • Held all offices including President from 2002 – 2003
    • Served on Board of Directors and Chair of Scholarship Committee
  • Ohio Municipal League
    • Vice-President 2003 -2004
    • Board of Trustees
    • F.A.N. Mentoring Program
  • National Associate of Parliamentarians
  • American Business Women’s Association, Trotwood Chapter

She leaves behind to cherish her memories, her husband of 54 years, Joe Singleton Jr.; two children, Yolanda Michele Singleton, Christopher Darnell (Crystal) Singleton; three sisters, Ella Louise Kee, Eula Mae (Thomas) Johnson, and Catherine (Thadious) Motley; one brother, the late Arthur William Kee Jr.; four sisters-in-law, Lula (James) Lathan-Williamson, Herlethia Smith, Patricia Singleton and Cynthia (Rodney) Withlow; Three grandchildren, Christopher “CJ” Singleton, Courtney Singleton, and Chelsea Singleton; many other nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.

Live stream funeral service will be held 1 pm Friday, May 7, 2021 at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, 5370 Dayton Liberty Road Dayton, OH  45417. Visitation 10 am until time of service.
