Lawrence Wiley Obituary

Lawrence Edward "Popeye" Wiley, a cherished figure in his community, passed away peacefully at 75 in the comfort of his home in Kettering, Ohio, on Wednesday, January 1, 2025.

Born on August 31, 1949, in the picturesque town of Clarksburg, West Virginia, Lawrence's life was a tapestry woven with dedication, resilience, and love. His journey took him from the tranquil, rolling hills of his home state to the vibrant city of Dayton, where he cultivated not just a residence but a warm and inviting home filled with laughter and love. Through his unwavering commitment to family and friends, he left an indelible mark on all those who knew him.

Lawrence was a steadfast employee at Plastic Trim Industries (PTI) for an impressive 41 years, earning a well-deserved reputation as a diligent worker with an incredible work ethic. His approach to life extended beyond the workplace; he was known for his genuine desire to uplift his colleagues in their professional and personal endeavors. His ability to forge deep connections was unparalleled, and he was a source of inspiration for many, driven by a rich tapestry of passions that brought joy to himself and everyone around him.

Among his many talents, Lawrence was a published poet and a skilled bass guitarist, embracing his creative side as a songwriter. His enthusiasm for mentoring others and guiding them toward success, combined with his role as a personal training coach, showcased his dedication to nurturing the potential in those around him.

Lawrence is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Lola Frances Wiley; stepfather, Ellsworth W. Jones Jr.; and his cherished grandparents, Elizabeth Miller-Wiley and John Wiley. His heart ached with the loss of his sister, Marie Ann Scott, as well as his great-niece, Julie Cirella, and his adored grand-pup, Charlie Puggalicious Wiley.

He is lovingly remembered by his devoted daughter, Adrienne (Anthony) Jackson, who carries on his legacy, along with his bonus children: William Reginald Young, Anika (James) Watkins, and Diona (Mitchell) Robinson. Lawrence found joy in the accomplishments of his grandchildren, Malik Young, Kyra Willis, and A'Mya Price.

He is also survived by his sisters, Annie E. Little of Fairmont, West Virginia; Connie Harris and Kelly Hillson; and his brother, John W. Jones, all from Clarksburg, West Virginia. Beloved friends, including Ms. Linda Blakes and the extended Greater Dayton YMCA family "Duh Krew,” as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives, hold his memory dear.

As those who loved him gather to remember his remarkable life, may his memory be a source of comfort and solace. Lawrence famously forwent traditional farewells, choosing instead to impart the lasting sentiment: "B. E. Z."—an expression that will echo in the hearts of those he inspired forever.
