LARRY SHELTON ILES, age 78, a native of Dayton, Ohio, passed away on November 14th, 2023.
He was born on October 23, 1945, in Dayton, Ohio to the late Elwood & Olivia Harrison Iles-Holland and preceded in death by his sister, Kaye Ann Iles.
Larry, graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1963, and continued his education at his beloved Central State University with a B.S. Degree in Education and received a Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Xavier University in Cincinnati Ohio. Larry was a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army and graduated from Adjutant General School. After serving his country he became a dedicated educator, where he taught Science and coached several basketball teams, retiring from the Dayton Public School system after 30 years of service.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman, loved playing tennis, and was a huge supporter of the Humane Society of Greater Dayton Adoption Center. He continually contributed to his alma mater Central State University, as well as Archbishop Alter High School in honor of his daughter, Kelli.
Larry is survived by his beloved daughter, Kelli Hunter (Ronald), and grandchildren Mackenzi Charisse Rae and Jamison Guy Hunter. He leaves to cherish his memory devoted brother Bruce Iles. He was very proud of his nephew and nieces, William Iles (Shirley), Michelle Hudson (Jimmy), Kimberly Thomas (John). Nieces, Karla Bobo, Krystal Thurman (Anthony), Kandise Kaye Bobo. Special Aunt, Mrs. Nancy Harrison, and two Uncles, Peter and Richard Harrison and cousins, Phillip (Phyllis), Stephen Dale, and Keith Harrison (Debra), Karen Raye Davenport (Jimmy), niece Tamaria Kai Perry, Michael Johnson, niece Rhonda Johnson, Sandra and James McKee (Roberta), nieces Donna and Janet McKee, plus a host of great-nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral service 10 am Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at House of Wheat Funeral Home, 2107 N. Gettysburg Avenue, Dayton, Ohio. Visitation 9 am- 10 am at which time family will receive friends. Interment Dayton National Cemetery.
