Lamar Favors, Jr., 76, passed away Monday, January 11, 2021. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia and migrated to Dayton, Ohio with his parents.
He graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, Class of 1962. He was a retired teaching employee of the Dallas-Fort Worth, TX Metroplex Public School System, and a Central State University Alumnus. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army.
Lamar had a way of capturing other's attention through his masterful story telling techniques and great sense of humor. During his adolescence to young adult years, he attracted a circle of spectators on the dance floor by illustrating the latest dance moves with precision (getting down) on the dance floor.
He was tall in stature with a gentle soul and high level of compassion for others. He was always willing to go out of his way to help those less fortunate. He was a Jazz enthusiast and enjoyed entertaining others by playing the bongos and the kalimba guitar with numerous groups.
Lamar was affiliated with the Creekside Players of Dayton, and served as a Jazz Event Commentator at a popular Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex Jazz Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lamar Favors, Sr. and Martha Favors; stepdaughter, Twalla Foster. Lamar is survived by sisters, Shirley Favors and Sandra Favors-Darah; stepson, Cal Foster, Jr.; stepdaughter, Culpatrice Foster; cousin, Kay Wilson; step-granddaughter, LaRashia Edwards; a host of additional relatives and friends.
Walk-through visitation 8:30-9:30 am Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at the House of Wheat Funeral Home, Inc., 2107 N. Gettysburg Ave. Live streamed service at 9:30 am.
