Kevin D. Matthews, Sr.

Kevin DeAndre “Redd” Matthews, 47, passed away July 27, 2022, surrounded by family and friends.

Kevin was born December 12, 1974, in Piqua, Ohio to Kenneth Houston and Rita Matthews. He attended Dayton Public Schools from 1985 to 1992, and later received his GED from Montgomery County Training Center in 1997. Before starting his own cooking business in 2014, Kevin worked as a manager for several reputable companies.

He was united in holy matrimony to Elana T. Matthews on August 12, 2011. This union was blessed with one child, Gavin, which completed their blended family.

Kevin was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something often mentioned. Kevin was unendingly proud of his family and always tried his best support them in any way he could.

The world has lost a great son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and leader.

He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Houston; his grandfathers, Donald Matthews and Owen Cox; his grandmothers, Frances Dobson and Libby Taylor; uncle and aunts, Dougie Taylor, Oveta Shurelds, Gina Olden; and very special friend, Enrique Roseman.

Besides his loving wife, he leaves to cherish his loving memory, his mother, Rita Matthews, and grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Houston; daughters, Atayvia (Adrian) Wilson, Mariah (Mike) Jordan, Rakia Thompson, Ajynah Thompson, Dionni Echols, and Kennedi Matthews; sons, Kevin Matthews Jr., Kenneth Matthews, and Gavin Matthews; brother, Craig (Tira) Matthews; sisters, Lakeshia (Gurpreet) Singh, Chanelle (Sterling) Atkins, Kimberly Steward, Carolyn Daniel, and LaKeshia Bagley; devoted cousin, Taushia Wright; aunts and uncles, Phyllis Shepard, Toni Matthews, Sharon Davis, Donald Lucas, Deeno Taylor, Edward Houston, and Robert Weakley; 15 grandchildren, and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
