Kathryn L. Buckner, affectionately known as “Kat,” transitioned from this life on Monday, June 16, 2025, at the age of 75. She was born on June 14, 1950, in Dayton, Ohio to the late Matthew “Buddy” Booker and Mary Katherine Booker (Stone). She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepson Craig Buckner, six brothers, and seven sisters.
Kathryn accepted Christ in the early 1980s at Bethesda Temple Apostolic Church. A powerful woman of God, she was known as a spiritual powerhouse—delivering the Word with boldness, conviction, and grace. She was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt who carried herself with elegance and strength. She had a deep appreciation for the finer things in life, particularly her St. John suits, Brahmin bags, and traveling the world.
She was a proud graduate of Nettie Lee Roth High School, Class of 1968. Kathryn began her professional career in the early 1970s working for the Montgomery County Animal Shelter. She later chose to dedicate her time to raising her children as a stay-at-home mother. In 2003, she entered a new season of discipline and transformation, becoming a bodybuilder and personal trainer at Moore’s Fitness and DK&J Fitness Center. She trained many Dayton residents and won several “Best Body” awards in local festivals and competitions.
In 2004, Kathryn earned her Ohio Department of Health State-Tested Nurse Aide (STNA) certification and worked at Arbors of Dayton Skilled Nursing Facility for several years. After sustaining a knee injury on the job, she transitioned to working at General Motors Delphi Automotive Systems in 2005, where she remained until retirement. During her retirement years, she continued to serve through the AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent Program. She became a beloved presence at her childhood school, Westwood Elementary, where she tutored and mentored children as “Ms. Kathy.” The students adored her, and she, in turn, taught them to love themselves and respect others.
Kathryn’s presence was magnetic. She was known for her sharp wit, snappy comebacks, and a laugh so contagious that it filled every room she entered. Her light, love, and legacy will continue to live on in all who knew her.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Tonya (Julius) Barnes and Kimberly (Jeff) Moreland; her sons, Fletcher Moreland Jr. and Anthony (Tiffany) Buckner Jr.; and seven loving grandchildren: Antoinette Booker, Donte Moreland, Chanae Reid, Kimberly Henderson, Lenora (Charles) Evans, Tonaye Brooks, and Antonio Moreland. She is also survived by eighteen great-grandchildren; her special friend, Anthony Hunter; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and cherished friends.
"Her children rise up and call her blessed.”
