K. P. Martin Obituary

K.P. Martin, 72, born December 13, 1949, in Troy, Alabama, the fourth child of eleven children, to the late Mack and Gussie Martin, completed his earthly journey January 6, 2022. He attended Elam School in Alabama and later joined the Job Corps and travelled to places such as Utah and New Jersey. In the 1970’s, he settled in Dayton, Ohio and worked at McCall’s before opening his own trucking business in 1975. He was the founder, owner and operator of Martin Concrete and Trucking.

K.P. truly loved the trucking business and helping others in the industry. He favored dump trucks and worked with several prominent businesses in the community for nearly 50 years. As an entrepreneur, he contributed to the growth of the region and assisted in the completion of many well-known structures in the area. He was a huge fan of the Cleveland Browns, overalls, blues music and dogs. His favorite dog was his best friend and companion, Mr. Lucky who transitioned on January 8, 2022.

K.P. was a very kind man and his family says it will be hard to imagine holidays and family events without his laugh, humor, and smile. The white elephant Christmas exchange will not be the same without him plotting to do whatever it takes to get the gift that he really wants. We will miss his tradition of lovingly picking on all of the nephews and nieces so that they always remember him. Of course, he will never be forgotten.

He is preceded in death by brothers, Joe Martin, Willie Martin and Henry Lee Martin.

He leaves to cherish his memory, sons, Michael (Melinda) Martin, Brian Stitt; only grandson, Brian Stitt Jr.; brothers, Fred Martin, James (Sonya) Martin, Richard (Angela) Martin and Robert Martin; sisters, Elizabeth Duerson, Ann Martin and Dorothy Martin; special nieces, Jackie Martin and Sybil Martin; a host of nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, cousins and friends.
