Josephine Card, born May 25, 1924, peacefully passed away on January 4, 2025, at the age of 100.
She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, John E. Card in 2009.
A trailblazer and cherished resident of St. Anne’s Historic District, Josephine made history as the founder of the first Black-owned nursing home in the area during the 1960s. Her contributions to the community earned her the honor of having “Josie Street” in St. Anne’s named after her. She was also a two-time recipient of the Businesswoman of the Year award.
She is survived by her son, Ronald (Aggie). Josephine had five grandchildren: Ron, Tanya & Josie and Jason & Ryan, plus 10 great grandchildren.
Her legacy of leadership, compassion, and resilience will live on in the hearts of her family and all who knew her.
