On Friday, October 8, 2021 one journey ended and a new one began for our grandmother, auntie and sister-in- Christ, Mrs. Josephine Blackmon. Born March 20, 1926 in LaGrange, GA to Jim and Lordis Jenkins. She was a resident of Dayton for over 70 years. She was a faithful member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and Matron of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 14.
Amongst her many accomplishments, besides having Virginia, she worked with various civic groups serving the city that she loved and she also served as a delegate for President Jimmy Carter.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Curtis and Christa Harris; great grandchildren, Johnathan, Shay, Trent, Chelsia and Alyssa Harris; plus many, many sisters and brothers and a lot of nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be held 11 am Friday, October 15, at Woodland Cemetery, 118 Woodland Ave. Arrangements entrusted to House of Wheat Funeral Home, Inc.
A charge to keep I have, a God to glorify, a never dying soul to save, and fit it for the sky. Such as I have I give to Thee, Thou Savior of mankind. For Thou hast given Thy life for me, in Thee true peace I find.
