John J. Ward, Sr., age 65, beloved father and son, departed this life February 24, 2021 after his battle with lung cancer. John was born to Catherine Ward (Hurt) and John Armstrong. He was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1975 and served eight years in the Army National Guard. John was a simple man. He loved his mother and his family. He liked to feed the birds, go for long walks, watch Kung Fu movies, play chess, play pool, and hangout with his family and friends.
John was a fighter and he never backed down from a fight. When he was faced with the opponent lung cancer he was up for the challenge. But the battle was not his, God is and always will be the victor. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. (I Corinthians 15:57)
To his loved ones left behind; Although life is unexpected, and death or sorrow can come at any time. No matter how hard we try, there is no way to prepare. But, during these times we must remember that there is another life with God in heaven. No matter how much we try to remember that our loved one has moved on to a better place, we still grieve. It’s a natural process and it takes time to heal. During the darkest times, it’s important to turn to our friends, family, and faith for support. Grief may feel like it’s never-ending, but by reading God’s word, allowing yourself to feel your emotions, and giving yourself time to process, you will soon find comfort again.
John is preceded in death by his brothers, Frank Ward, Frederick Ward, and Freeman Ward.
He is survived by his mother, Catherine Elizabeth Ward; children, Antoine Harrison, Sequoia Richardson, Jackie Gaines (Bruce), John Ward Jr., Christopher Ward; a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
