John L. Perry was born August 12, 1925, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to William and Celeste Crummie. He was educated in Tuscaloosa, visited up North several times and eventually settled in the Dayton area.
John affectionately known to many as “PETE” loved sports and in his early years played baseball with the traveling Negro Baseball league teams. He was also very skilled in building and initiated work on numerous building projects in the Dayton area.
Along with his work endeavors, John had an entrepreneurial spirit that kept him building, creating, and dreaming well into his later years.
John never met a person he wouldn't talk to, he was always more than eager to challenge your brain, lend a word or suggestions generally followed by jovial laughter and a smile.
John was preceded in death by his wife of over 40 years, Dorothy L. Perry; along with three sons, John L. Perry Jr., Henderson Perry, and Joe Perry.
He leaves to mourn his passing daughter, Marcia Denise (Greg) Hood of Cleveland, OH; sons, Anthony (Gail) Perry of Columbus, OH, Jerome Perry of Tuscaloosa, AL; 18 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; several deeply valued relationships; and a host of other relatives and friends.
