Jesse White Sr. Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Jesse J. White Sr., a devoted husband, loving father, cherished son, esteemed brother, and dear friend. Jesse peacefully ascended to eternal rest on March 2, 2025, at the age of 72. His life began on May 21, 1952, in Opelika, Alabama, where he was born into a loving family.

Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, Rubin White and Julia Stewart-White, whose guidance and values shaped his remarkable character. He served his country with pride as a member of the U.S. Army, earning an honorable discharge that reflected his steadfast commitment to service and dedication to protecting others.

In his professional life, Jesse made significant contributions as a correctional officer in the State of Ohio. He devoted 17 years of his career to Lebanon State Prison, and later transferred to the Department of Corrections Institution (DCI), where he continued to make a difference until his retirement in 2005. His commitment to his work and the well-being of those around him were hallmarks of his character.

Jesse graduated from Howard High School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, in 1970, where he fostered a lifelong love for sports, particularly basketball. He found joy not only in the game but also in music, often filling his home with the soulful sounds of artists such as James Brown and Teddy Pendergrass. His appreciation for life's simple pleasures included a fondness for McDonald's sweet tea and refreshing homemade lemonade, creating sweet moments shared with family and friends.

Jesse is survived by his loving wife, Vera Dye-White, who stood by his side through life’s ups and downs. He leaves behind his cherished children: Antoinette Dobbs-Taylor (Robert) of Chatanooga, TN, Daka Hermon of Burbank, California, Yakesha Baker of Chatanooga, TN, Jesse White Jr. of Chatanooga, TN, Suria Dye-Gregg (Jeremy), Forturtan Dye, Saquana Bryant (Jerry) all of Dayton, OH, whose lives will forever reflect his strength and values. Jesse was also a proud grandfather to Myles and Meghann Common, Jalen and Jesse (Tre) White, Lamonte’ and Keonte’ Solomon, and Keosha Herman, who brought immense joy to his heart. Additionally, he is remembered by his siblings Arthur White of Atlanta, Georgia, Timothy White (Patricia) of Chattanooga, TN, Maurice White of Chattanooga, TN and Cornelia Williams of Atlanta, GA, and a circle of special friends who cherished the bond they shared with him.
