Jeffrey Leon Underwood

Jeffrey Leon “Jeff” Underwood, age 64, passed away Friday, October 27, 2023. Jeff was born to the late Jonathan Sr. and Ruthelma Underwood on December 18, 1958, in Dayton, Ohio.

Jeff attended Fairview High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army; he also studied electronics at Sinclair College. Jeff was a devoted father who always put his family first. As a correctional officer with big dreams and a big heart, he established the Preface Foundation to help recently released women from prison and wrote his first screenplay, Beautiful Earth, to bring awareness to the cause. While his favorite mantra was “crazy world” he always found laughter in life and beauty in nature.

He is preceded in death by his parents; nephew, Joshua Underwood.

Jeff is survived by his loving children, Kellee (Jerell) Baynes, AuJenné (Preston) Cooper, Je’Bri (Dominic) Underwood and Kiki Underwood; grandchildren, Lauree, Dominic Jr., Gianni, Journee, Jade, Jayden, and Aaliyah; nephew, Marcus Underwood; nieces, Natasha Underwood and Sarah Underwood; brothers, Jonathan Jr. (Brenda) Underwood and Edwin Underwood; aunt, Queen Esther Moore; former wife, Carol Quinn; close friend, Kim Smith; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Funeral service 12:30 pm Monday, November 6, 2023, at House of Wheat Funeral Home, Inc. 2107 N. Gettysburg Avenue, Dayton, Ohio. Visitation 9 am- 12:30 pm. Family will receive friends 11:30 am- 12:30 pm. Interment Dayton National Cemetery.
