Jeffrey “Jeff” Lynn Mitchell was born August 25, 1956 in York, Pennsylvania. Jeff was one of four children to Rochelle Joan Harris and Kenneth Beauvard Mitchell. In his adolescence, Jeff enjoyed playing little league football and successfully went on to play in Junior High School. Thereafter, his family moved to Washington, D.C. where he graduated from Wilson High School. Even as a young adult, Jeff possessed a keen intellect and thirst for knowledge that allowed him to easily adapt to the next chapter in his life.
Jeff eventually made his way to Detroit, Michigan where he was a dedicated employee at JL Hudson’s in Downtown Detroit as well as the Southfield location. In 1995, Jeff married Juanita Caple. Within their union, they raised and supported his children (Alex and Amber) all throughout adolescence, high school, and college years. He also became an assistant store manager at Blockbuster video. Jeff did not allow the decline of Detroit’s economy prevent him from providing for his family. In the early 2000s, they moved to Dayton, Ohio for better opportunities.
For nearly 20 years, he worked as a caregiver for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the Greater Dayton, OH area, providing compassionate and loving support. He retired from Better Living Home Health after countless years of dedication, finally having the time for well-deserved relaxation.
Even in retirement, Jeff was a man of sacrifice. He maintained a positive spirit that allowed him to put others needs first. Jeff had an infectious laughter that made him a beloved figure from his family and friends. He made every effort to attend graduations, sports activities, and events he was invited to because he was such a supportive person. Jeff enjoyed his leisure time watching golf and football (specifically cheering on the Steelers) and going to local community events with his family, as well. Anyone who knew him, knows that he cherished the opportunity to reconnect and share stories over the phone with loved ones.
Jeffrey departed from his life on earth on January 20, 2025.
He will be remembered by family and friends whose lives he touched with his kindness. Jeffrey is survived by his wife Juanita Mitchell, son Alex (Britiany) Caple Sr., and their son Alex Caple Jr., daughter Amber (Eda) Oniha, and their daughter Abigail Oniha, sister-in-law Legoldia (Travis) Mack and their daughters whom were also his godchildren-Oceania Mack and Lamaeria Mack, and four siblings Christina Diane Searcy, Kenneth B Mitchell Jr., Craig Mitchell, and Sanowa Pruett along with a host of loving family and friends from across the nation. He will be greatly missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.
