Jean Jeter Obituary

Jean Yvonne (Bohanon) Jeter better known as “Toots” was born on Thursday, April 29, 1937 to Iula Virginia Bohanon. She attended Drexel Elementary School, Roosevelt and Dunbar High Schools. She starred in The Nut Family play in 1954. Toots graduated from Patterson Night School in 1962. She was a lifeguard at Roosevelt High School. She loved swimming and ensured her children could swim as well. Toots accepted the Lord at an early age. She has been a member of First Baptist Church of Ridgewood Heights over 75 years. She was an Usher at First Baptist Church from 2008-2020 and sang in the First Baptist Combined Choir. From the kindness of her heart she sent cards to the sick in shut ins and also as a member of the Sunshine Committee at Church. She loved the Lord and her Church. She also went to the Nursing Homes to spread the love of the Lord.

Toots worked at Van Dyne Crotty with her Mom and sister Shirley Spears, then in 1953 started working at Miami Valley Hospital in the various departments: Cafeteria, Dietary and Surgery, Outpatient, McIntire. She retired in 1999. She retired as an Instrument Technician. In her spare time, she enjoyed the soap operas! Everyone knew not to call her or visit her during soap opera hours!! Her nephew Scottie was always the one to call and discuss the soaps with her. She enjoyed playing her games on her laptop, going to the boat and going to the movies. Sometimes she would just go to the movie theater to buy the popcorn. Toots thought the movie theater had the best popcorn. When she was younger, she loved swimming, public speaking, acting and skating! Toots always spoke her mind and did not bite her tongue.

Toots was preceded in death by her mother, Iula Virginia Woodruff, grandparents, Eddie (“Love”) and Mamie Bohanon, Aunts: Ruth Griffith, Juanita Wilcox, Uncles: Edward, Rayve and Arthur Bohanon, her brothers: William Bohanon, Robert Woodruff and sister Shirley Camp Spears; nephew, Jeffrey Bohanon; special nieces: Shirley A. Camp and Christian Camp; special cousins: Joyce A. Bailey, Donald (BeBe) Bohanon, special friend, Mr. Kenneth Frazier. Along with other beloved family members too numerous to name.

Mrs. Jeter loved children. She loved nurturing them and teaching them about the Lord. Mrs. Jeter has four children that will forever cherish her memories:  Paul (Toni) Jeter, James T. Jeter, Cheryl “Peaches” (John) Dixon and Donnetta Boykin. She was blessed to have the following grandchildren:  Jennifer Harris, John Dixon, Samantha Wright, Paul (Tiffani) Jeter, Dustin (Angela) Jeter, Regis Jeter, Christina Majors, Joshua Jeter, Justin Majors, Dioncia Dixon, James DeRae Dixon, William Boykin III and Caira Boykin.
