ICIA MAE TURNER HERRON was born in Homer, LA on November 30, 1921, to Moleno Matthew and Lillian Norton Turner. She grew up on a large farm with three sisters and six brothers, on a peaceful, productive land. Icia Mae accepted the Lord as her Saviour and Guiding Light at an early age and joined the Mt. Pisgah C.M.E. Church. She attended Homer Colored High School, where she played basketball. After graduation, she moved to Okland, CA, and then to Dayton, OH, where she met and was united in holy matrimony with Mr. Marrie Herron on February 17, 1945. Together they raised four daughters: Carol, Regina, Markerite, and Icia.
Icia Mae, 103 years young, was called home to the Lord on November 12, 2025. During her last days, she was surrounded by family and friends who loved and adored her. She always maintained a cheerful outlook on life and loved her family dearly. She will be forever cherished, and we are beyond blessed to have had her in our lives as long as the Lord allowed us to.
In the late 1940s, Icia and Marrie Herron set out on foot to find a church home in their community; their Christian upbringing made this a priority. After visiting multiple churches, God led them to Phillips Temple CME Church on Broadway Ave, Pastor Marshall Gilmore. This was the start of a long communion. Icia Mae was a devoted servant, joining the Nurses Corp, where she served for decades. She also supported Missionary Society events and other church functions, always willing to assist where needed.
Icia Mae retired from the food service industry and was an excellent cook. She enjoyed preparing dishes from her southern experience. Her “down home” dishes were amazing, and the homemade yeast rolls, WOW! She had several hobbies: gardening, sewing, quilting, and canning fruits and vegetables. She also took classes in cake decorating, ceramics, and furniture upholstery to modernize her skills. She prepared the most exotic fruit and vegetable trays for family and church events that were never duplicated.
Icia Mae is preceded in death by her parents, Moleno and Lillian Turner, LA; siblings Johnnie (Lacine) Turner; Chester (Corine) Turner; Zelma (Antwine) Grisby; Allie (Marvin) Scott; Myron (Mildred) Turner; Melvin (Hazel) Turner; daughters Carol (Charlie) Wilson and Regina Rambo.
Precious memories will be cherished by siblings; Cleotis (Winifred), Lawrenceville, GA; Thelma (Henry deceased) Daily, Atlanta, GA; Leartis (Patsy) Turner, Shreveport, LA; two daughters, Markerite Parker; Icia (Ricky) Robinson; six grandchildren, Anthony (Jameka) Parker; Charlene Wilson; Alysa Rambo, Atlanta GA; Trenton (Cierra) Byrd; Raquel Robonson; Brandon Robinson; special niece, Marva Scott Burton; nine great grandchildren and an abundance of relatives and friends whom she loved dearly.
