Henrietta Essex

Henrietta Essex, née Robinson, was born on November 20, 1954, in Dayton, Ohio, and was preceded in death by her parents, Bennie and Mary Robinson. She peacefully departed this life on December 18, 2025, at the age of 71, surrounded by love.

Henrietta spent her life deeply rooted in the community she called home. She was a proud graduate of Dunbar High School, Class of 1974. She attended the University of Cincinnati, where she studied Nursing before her journey was redirected.

Though she did not work outside the home, her life’s work was raising, loving, and supporting her family. Her impact is reflected in the generations she helped shape and the countless memories she leaves behind.

Known for her warm spirit, strength, and unwavering love for her family, Henrietta was admired for her keen sense of style and took great pride in her appearance wherever she went.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Essex, Sr.; sister, Delores; brothers: Donnie, Billy, George, and Warner; nephews: Austin, Shawn & Craig.

Henrietta leaves behind daughters: Sherell, Coda, Kenyatta (Sir), Carol (Mike), and Mary; beloved niece and honorary daughter: Katrina; sons: Bert (Ashley), Jermaine, Robert (Nicola); sisters: Annaclare (Ron), & Shirley; grandchildren: Doray, Augustine, Terra, Shanice, Aaliyah, TeJuana, Dashaun, Dalon, Billy, Armani, Ayanna, Nate, D’Maureo, Kordae, Kendrick, Journei, Jaden, Joseph, Mercedes, Jordan (Mahsa), and Jesaan; great-grandchildren: Ja’nya, Doriah, Royce, King, Baby Jai, Jersey, Ari, True, Shai, Aubrey, Wyshawn; special nieces, nephews: Dawana (Kenneth), Carnecia, Tonio, Darrin, Mindy, April, Danchell, Arsenio, Danielle, Lil George, Mitchelle, Brenda,      Cheryl (Gerry) and Jeffery; special friends Rhonda and Robin; and a host of extended family and friends who will forever cherish her memory.

Henrietta’s legacy of love, grace, and devotion will live on in all who were blessed to know her.

Funeral service 11 am Wednesday, December 31, 2025 at House of Wheat Funeral Home, 2107 N. Gettysburg Ave., Dayton, OH. Visitation 9 am- 11 am. Family will receive friends 10:30 am- 11 am. Interment Dayton National Cemetery.
