Harvey A. Toles, 94, was born in Greentown West Virginia on August 4, 1929 to Harvey Bryant Toles and Ethel (Carroll) Toles. He passed away peacefully on April 1, 2024 at The Suites at Walnut Creek, Kettering, Ohio.
He attained an undergraduate degree in Liberal Arts from Bluefield College in West Virginia, where he met his future bride Grayce Eskridge. They spent fifty-seven wonderful years together. The union was blessed with a son, Terrell, the love of their life. Harvey earned credits towards a Master's Degree at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. He served in the Army between 1952-1954. He worked as a Kinesiology Therapist at the Dayton Veteran’s Administration Medical Center, retiring after 42 years.
He found joy and satisfaction immersing himself in his beloved church home, St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church where he served in several capacities. He freely gave his time and energy to the church, serving on the Vestry as Junior and Senior Warden and Treasurer. He was also a choir member, served on the Minority Empowerment Board, a member of The Brotherhood and many hospitality committees.
Harvey was dedicated to uplifting his community through service and enjoying life in several social groups; G-Men, Selectman and Guys & Dolls. He was a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated where he was initiated October 31, 1948. In his spare time he loved to cater special events. He also loved to attend The Ohio State University Buckeye football games with his good friend Don Logan and his sons.
He will be remembered for his unassuming approach to getting important things done, his directness when needed, and his kind heart.
Harvey is proceeded in death by his parents Harvey and Ethel, loving wife Grayce, son Terrell, sisters Marion, Cordelia, Ravella and Alberta. He is survived by his three granddaughters, Lindsey, Trayce and Tayler, a great grandson Beaux, his daughter in Love, Angela, Goddaughter Arlana, his grandnieces and nephew Ethel Louis, Arvella and Oscar. A special acknowledgement is given to the Donnelly family, Evangeline, Wendi and David.
Celebration of life 11:30 am Thursday, December 5, 2024 at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, 5301 Free Pike, Dayton, OH. Calling hour 10:30 am- 11:30 am at which time family will receive friends. Interment Dayton National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Margaret's Episcopal Church on behalf of Harvey A. Toles. Arrangements entrusted to House of Wheat Funeral Home.
