Gwendolyn Ruth Bowers, born the second daughter to Fred Bowers and Marguerite Bowers (nee Harlow) on Jun 20, 1941, departed this life peacefully on August 21, 2020.
Gwen attended Dayton Public Schools and graduated from Roosevelt High School. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Ohio State University, and began teaching at Dunbar High School, where she was an excellent teacher with an inspirational connection with her students. After her father’s death, Gwen left teaching to work her way through law school, and became a noted criminal defense lawyer opening her own office. Her latter career was in Probate Law.
Gwen was a special daughter, sister, mother, “Mammaw” and friend. Her sense of humor, insight, wisdom, and wide interests created an interesting, complex, and generous personality. She was a long-time member of Wayman AME Church, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, and the Gem City Medical, Dental and Pharmaceutical Association.
Gwen was preceded in death by both parents and by her sister Joanna Bowers. She left to mourn her loss and cherish her memory daughterm Felica Pollard, and grandchildren, Jon Pollard, Jr. and Erica Pollard, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life memorial is to be announced at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the House of Wheat Funeral Home, Inc.
