Grant Clark, a devoted father, grandfather, educator, coach, mentor, protector, and faithful servant of Almighty God, was born on April 16, 1944, to the late Johnny and Emily Clark. On Tuesday, April 21, 2026, he peacefully transitioned, surrounded by the love of family and Friends.
Grant received his early education at Thomas A. Levy High School in Rosedale, Louisiana, graduating in 1963. He continued his academic journey at Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and Health Education. While in college, he became a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., an affiliation that reflected and extended his lifelong commitment to service. He later obtained a Master’s degree in the same field from Southern University and Agricultural and Mechanical College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
On May 31, 1969, Grant united in holy matrimony with his college sweetheart, Mary Clark, in Montgomery, Alabama. Their union was blessed with a daughter, Tiffany Clark, and a grandson, Mason Clark.
He began his professional career with great pride as a teacher and coach in the Calhoun County Public School System in Anniston, Alabama, where he served with dedication and excellence until 1971. That same year, Grant embraced a life-changing opportunity and relocated his family to Dayton, Ohio, where he launched a distinguished career with the Dayton Public School System. Throughout his tenure, he built a legacy of excellence while serving at Roosevelt, Roth, Kiser, Dunbar, Colonel White, Patterson, and Belmont.
All experiences held a special place in his heart. Those years were among his most cherished, filled with championship wins, unforgettable moments, and special bonds with his players and community that will live on forever.
Grant was more than an exceptional educator and coach; he was a pillar in the community whose impact continues to be felt. His commitment to young people extended far beyond the classroom and athletic fields. He mentored with compassion, offering guidance, encouragement, and unwavering support, whether by listening, providing financial assistance, or ensuring others had food and transportation when needed. His life’s work was rooted in service, sacrifice, and a deep love for others.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Emily Clark, and his sisters, Thelma Toussant and Johnnie Sims.
