Gloria Moore Obituary

Gloria Jean (Brown) Moore, born June 21, 1947 in Ashland Alabama, went home to be with the Lord Friday, May 7, 2021 after a series of health challenges. She moved to Dayton with her family at an early age and was a resident for the remainder of her life. She was a graduate of Dunbar High School, Class of 1965. Gloria was employed by General Motors and retired after 28 years of service.

Gloria professed Christ and received the gift of the Holy Ghost in 1985 under the pastorate of the late Bishop Fred Majors. She served faithfully as a member of Christ Temple Apostolic Faith until her passing. Well named by her parents, for Gloria means, glory to God, and she was known for testifying, shouting and praising the Lord. She was also known for the poems she wrote and shared at church. She was always ready to witness to someone about the Lord.

Family members describe Gloria as bold, honest, outspoken, generous, stylish and wise. She loved to tease her nieces and nephews, and is described as the “cool aunt”. She was known for sharing humorous stories at family gatherings. Some of her favorite pastimes included shopping with her sisters and going out to eat with family. Gloria had great strength and wisdom and used every opportunity to share her wisdom with everyone around her.

Gloria remained faithful and dedicated throughout her illness. Her strength was evident in the midst of her pain. She never complained; she continued to praise the Lord. Whether she was in the hospital, a care facility or elsewhere, she was always ready to tell someone about the goodness of Jesus.

In addition to her parents, Maudine and Thomas Brown, Gloria was preceded in death by her sons, Donald Jackson and Aaron Moore; niece, LaRonne Scales; nephews, Daniel Scales and Jaron Brown; and brothers-in-law Robert Williams and Ernest Scales, Sr.

Those she leaves behind to celebrate her life and cherish her memory include her daughter, Javene Moore-Collier; son, E. James Moore, III; siblings, Mary Scales, Minerva (John) Holifield, James (Tanya) Brown, Archie (Teresa) Brown, Larry (Sheila) Brown, Cora (William) Cox, all of Dayton, Ruth Williams of Mansfield Ohio; grandchildren, Mark “Cam” (Jazzmine) McGuire Jr., DaJuan Northcutt, Myles Collier, Jadyn Brielle Collier, Javen Moore, Asia Lumpkin; great grandchildren, Chazz, Maximus, Lavon, Hodges, Bria, Sherwood, Azjon, Jaya, Ryan, Ta’Chelle, Liam, Avery, Rhaelyn, MJ and Luna; bonus son and daughters, Anthony Collier, Sherrell Ransby and Marlene Ditto Aldridge; special friends, Myrtle Nixon, Barbara Lumpkin, and Norma Green; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends, and the church family.
