Frederick Jeter Obituary

In loving memory of Frederick “Fred” Roger Jeter, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 27, 2025 at the age of 84. He was the third son born to Theodore and Blonnie (nee Pennington) Jeter on January 11, 1941 in Dayton, Ohio.

Fred graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1959. He graduated in 1973 from Central State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education. He taught Industrial Arts at Colonel White High School while working nights at Inland. Fred was promoted to Supervisor and retired from the Inland Division of General Motors, where he dedicated 32 years of his professional life. He was respected for his hard work, integrity, and leadership. Fred’s colleagues and friends will remember him as a man of great character.

Outside of Fred’s professional life, he found great joy in his personal interests. C&J Sports Travel got its start when Fred and his life-long friends, Melvin Clark and Richard “Clay” Dixon, decided to mix their love for The Cleveland Browns and traveling into something special. Teaming up with friends who were just as enthusiastic about adventure, they dreamed up a company for people who wanted to experience the world through sports. Fred also enjoyed golfing with the “Early Birdies”, and swimming at Princeton Park Recreation Center with “NAP”.  He also had a lifelong love for Western movies, often spending quiet evenings immersed in tales of rugged cowboys, dusty trails, and frontier justice.

He was married to his loving wife, Linda (nee Riggins), for over 63 years. Together, they built a warm and welcoming home filled with laughter, love, and they joy of family.

Fred is preceded in death by both of his parents; brothers, Lawrence Ramon Jeter and Theodore Richard Jeter; niece, Tracy D. Jeter-Riddle.

Along with his wife, Fred leaves to cherish his memory their two daughters, Joy L. Jeter-Burns (Samuel), and Candace R. Jeter; brother, Charles Ronald Jeter; six grandchildren, Julian C. Jeter-Davis (Breana), Kennedy Joy McCray, Camryn Nouelle McCray, Keith Frederick-William McCray, Dominique Burns, and Darian Burns; four great-grandchildren (who named him “Great-Daddy”), Jules Jeter-Davis, Jori Jeter-Davis, Jabari Burns and Carter McCray who were the light of his life; sisters-in-law, Aleta “Candy” Williams (Robert), Myra Saxton, Mareatha Harris and Kaye Manson Jeter; brother-in-law, Javance Riggins (Margaret); special cousins, James Jeter and Patricia Jeter Clarke. Fred had a special bond with his nieces and nephews — Damion Jeter (Arine), S. Lynn Jeter, Lawrence R. Jeter II (Keisha), Tamiko Ridgeway; God son Brian L. Clark and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends — and treasured the time spent guiding, laughing with, and loving them.

Fred took great pride in his family, often sharing stories and creating unforgettable memories at family gatherings.

He was known for his hearty laugh, warm spirit, and ability to see the good in every situation.

His spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, as he brought joy and laughter into every room he entered. Frederick R. Jeter will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all those whose lives he touched.

Rest in peace, dear husband, father, and friend.
