Deacon Fred Dancy was born on August 28, 1939, to the late Henry and Mederaina Dancy. From the very beginning of his life, Fred carried a spirit of kindness, warmth, and joy that touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Fred was known as a man who never met a stranger. His bright smile, calm spirit, and gentle way with people made others feel welcomed and valued. He had a special gift for making people laugh and lifting the spirits of those around him. Whether he was spending time with the men he met through church, visiting and praying for the sick and shut-in, or simply] offering a listening ear, Fred was always ready to serve and support his community. He also cherished the simple joys of fellowship, including sharing Saturday morning breakfasts with his dear friend, Mr. Gerald Porter. Their friendship was a special one, filled with laughter, meaningful conversation, and a bond that brought them both great joy over the years.
He attended Sumner High School in Aliceville, AL where he graduated.
Family was deeply important to Fred. From a previous marriage, he was blessed with three children. Later, through his marriage to his beloved wife, Delores Dancy, he embraced a blended family that became a cherished and meaningful part of his life. While Fred was a devoted father, his grandchildren—and especially his great-grandchildren—affectionately knew him as “Papa,” a name that reflected the love and special bond they shared with him.
In 1959, Fred moved to Dayton, Ohio, where he built a life rooted in hard work and dedication. He worked faithfully at GHR Foundry for 20 years and later at Chrysler for 25 years, earning the respect of those who worked alongside him.
Fred was a faithful member of Freedom-Hill Bible Church, where his love for God and for people was evident in the way he lived. In April 2007, he was ordained as a Deacon and served with humility, compassion, and a servant’s heart.
Deacon Fred Dancy will be remembered as a devoted family man, a faithful servant of God, and a respected presence in his community. His joyful laughter, gentle spirit, and unwavering faith left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.
Though he will be deeply missed, his life stands as a testament to faith, love, and service, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
"Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Lord."
— Matthew 25:23
